A Senate bill that has just passed will allow more people to file medical malpractice lawsuits if it clears the House.
The bill allows adult children to file a lawsuit if their parent dies due to medical malpractice. It also allows the parents of an adult child to file a lawsuit if their children die due to medical malpractice. Currently, neither groupĀ has legal standing and so cannot file a lawsuit if a relative dies due to medical malpractice.
The Democrat sponsor of the bill feels that everyone deserves their day in court while a Republican that is in opposition of the bill feels that the client pool should not be expanded when the budget is already running a deficit.
